Mayotte: Emergency Donation of 40 Generators to french NGO "Electriciens Sans Frontières"

Rehlko commits to supporting the people of Mayotte after Cyclone Chido

In response to the devastating impact of Cyclone Chido, which struck Mayotte on December 14th, Rehlko announces a donation of 40 gensets to the NGO Electricians Without Borders. This crucial gesture aims to support the urgent restoration of electricity on the island and to assist thousands of residents affected by this unprecedented disaster.

Cyclone Chido left behind a severe toll:

  • 30,000 households without electricity at its peak.

  • 70% of electrical networks damaged, according to EDM (Electricity of Mayotte).

  • Hundreds of public infrastructures, including schools and health centers, paralyzed due to lack of power.

  • Over 10,000 residents forced to live in precarious conditions, without access to electricity or basic lighting solutions

First Delivery Underway

Despite a time of year when resource mobilization is particularly challenging, Rehlko's teams did not hesitate. Faced with the distress of the Mahorais and the state of the island after Chido's destructive passage, they were extremely responsive to make this urgent donation to Electricians Without Borders possible.

Thanks to the unwavering commitment of Rehlko's logistics service, the first 15 generators were transported to Orly Airport and are en route to Mayotte, where they will arrive this Thursday, January 9th, via La Réunion. The remaining 25, currently stored in Lyon, will be shipped on a forthcoming flight currently being planned. Once on site, they will be used to power priority infrastructures such as hospitals, schools, and community centers.

This donation reflects Rehlko's long-standing commitment to solidarity and to supporting distressed populations. I would like to commend the mobilization of our employees, who responded despite the constraints of the period,"

Objectives of the On-Site Mission

Electricians Without Borders, a long-time partner of Rehlko (which trains volunteer electricians in Brest or via video when necessary for installation, use, or maintenance), has already deployed a team of 4 volunteers on the ground. Their mission: to secure electrical installations, connect the generators to priority collective structures, and distribute solar equipment to meet the essential needs of residents.

  • Securing electrical installations of partner associations and NGOs in Mamoudzou.

  • Installation of 32 solar kits and distribution of 96 solar lamps.

  • Connecting generators to ensure the operation of collective structures.

  • Coordination with local partners, including EDM (Electricity of Mayotte) and EDF.

In total, more than 4.8 tons of equipment have been shipped to Mayotte by Electricians Without Borders, including generators, solar kits, and electrical equipment.
